Case Crafter 2.2 is about the moment in court when you need two things on screen at once, a label on an exhibit, or a page a juror can actually read. In June we wrote that TrialPad had exhibit stickers and a side-by-side view and Case Crafter did not. As of 2.2, it does. That comparison has been updated.
Here is what is new, in the order you are most likely to notice it.
Compare two files side by side
Open any two files next to each other: a deposition transcript beside today’s trial testimony, a hospital chart beside the expert’s report, a scene photo beside the diagram. The compare view works in three places: in the file view while you review, inside an event on the timeline, and in presentation mode, so the jury sees both documents on the courtroom screen at the same time.
The obvious use is impeachment. Put the prior statement on the left, the transcript on the right, and let the difference speak. The less obvious use is preparation: comparing two versions of a contract, or two sets of medical records from different providers, without flipping back and forth.
Exhibit stickers on PDFs and images
You can now add an exhibit sticker to a PDF or an image inside Case Crafter. The case title and case number you enter in the case properties becomes the default header and footer on every sticker, so the label reads the way the court expects without retyping it on each exhibit. Case Crafter will automatically suggest the next exhibit number in the series you start, so if you type 1 for the first exhibit, the next one will automatically be numbered 2. This also works for letters, so if you start with A, the second one will be B. Double letters are numbered AA, BB, CC, etc.
Callouts you can move and resize, with a live preview
Callouts, the enlarged excerpt you pull out of a document for the jury, can now be resized and moved. While you adjust one, the external screen previews the change, so you are not guessing what the jury sees. Callouts also got a zoom effect when they open, which makes the movement from page to excerpt easier to follow from the jury box.
Scanned PDFs become searchable, on your device
A PDF without a text layer, which is most scanned discovery, used to be invisible to search. In 2.2, Case Crafter recognizes the text when you import the file, so scanned records show up in full-text search like everything else. The recognition runs on the device you are using. On Mac and iPad it uses Apple’s built-in AI text recognition; on Windows it runs a built in local AI model that ships with the app. Nothing is uploaded to be read, which is the point for privileged material.
Smaller changes you will notice
- It’s now possible to rotate pages in the PDF pages view.
- Print PDFs directly from inside the app.
- Added support for TIFF, GIF and BMP images.
- Video and audio files show elapsed and total time.
- A sync status bar at the bottom of the window shows the sync status on cloud enabled cases.
How to get 2.2

Does the side-by-side compare view work in presentation mode?
Yes. Compare works in the file view, inside an event, and in presentation mode, so both files appear on the courtroom screen together.
Does OCR send my documents anywhere?
No. Text recognition for scanned PDFs runs on the device you import with. On Mac and iPad it uses Apple’s built-in recognition; on Windows it uses a model included in the app.
Which platforms get 2.2?
All three: Windows, Mac and iPad. One subscription covers every device, and a case opened on one is the same case on the others.
