Import Case From Timeline Presenter

If you have been using the Timeline Presenter app, you can transfer cases to Case Crafter.

  • Open Timeline Presenter and long-click (or right-click for Mac) on a case on the main page.
  • Select Export. This will create a .timeline file that you can import into Case Crafter.
  • Open Case Crafter.
    • If you are using Windows or macOS, click Open Case. Navigate to the .timeline file you just created and open it.
    • If you are using an iPad, click Import. Navigate to the .timeline file you just created and open it.
  • Case Crafter will analyze the file.
  • A pop-up will be displayed. Provide a case name and select where you want to store the case.
  • Click Import to import the case. Depending on the size of the case, this can take some time.

  1. How do I export a case from Timeline Presenter?
    You can export a case by long-clicking (or right-clicking on Mac) a case on the main page, then selecting Export. This creates a .timeline file you can import into Case Crafter.
  2. Why won’t my .timeline file import correctly?
    Verify that the file was exported correctly and hasn’t been renamed or moved. Also, ensure you are opening the correct .timeline file and not a folder.
  3. How long does importing take?
    Import time depends on the case size and device performance. Larger cases with multiple events or attachments may take several minutes to process.
  4. Can I import multiple cases at once?
    Currently, cases must be imported one at a time.
