Cloud Cases and Sync

Last updated on 16 Sep 2026

Since version 2.0 a case can be stored in the cloud as well as on your device. A cloud case is kept in the app on each device you use and synced automatically, so the same case is available on your Windows PC, Mac and iPad, and it can be shared with colleagues. See Share a case and collaborate.

Cloud case or local case

You choose the storage when you create the case. In the Create new case window, under Storage, select one of:

  • Sync with the cloud (the default): everything in the case is stored locally in the app and also synced to the cloud. The case can be opened on all your devices and shared with others.
  • Store in a local folder: the case is kept in a folder on this device only, and nothing is uploaded. See Create New Case for the folder that is created.

Cloud cases show a cloud icon on the case card on the main page. You need to be logged in with the same account on each device where you want to use them.

Working with a cloud case

Open a cloud case like any other case. The first time you open it on a device, its files are downloaded, and a progress indicator shows how far the download has come. After that the case is on the device and opens right away.

Changes you make are saved on the device first and then synced. The status bar at the bottom of the window shows the sync state, for example All changes synced. You can keep working without an internet connection; your changes are synced when the connection is back.

When another member of the case makes a change, it appears on your device once it has synced.

How many cloud cases you can have

The number of cloud cases depends on your plan: 10 on Basic, 25 on Pro and unlimited on Unlimited. Local cases are not counted. See Pricing.

FAQ

Do I need an internet connection to open a cloud case?

Only the first time you open it on a new device, so the files can be downloaded. After that the case works offline and syncs when you are back online.

Where are the files of a cloud case kept on my device?

Inside the app’s own storage, not in a folder you manage yourself. Use Export in the app if you need a copy of a file or of selected pages.

Is a local case ever uploaded?

No. A case stored in a local folder stays on that device. Only cases created with Sync with the cloud are synced.
